According to Article 19 of the Ionizing Radiation Protection Act, which was put into practice on February 1, 2003, the competent authority (Nuclear Safety Commission, NSC in abbreviation) is required to select appropriate locations, establish radiation monitoring facilities, collect samples, conduct environmental radiation monitoring, and make the monitoring results publicly available.
Additionally, in accordance with Article 2 of the Organization Regulations of the Radiation Monitoring Center, Nuclear Safety Commission, the Radiation Monitoring Center (RMC in abbreviation) is responsible for the survey of natural background radiation and radioactive fallout, monitoring radiation and radioactivity in surrounding area at nuclear facilities, radioactive waste management, storage, and final disposal sites, and performing environmental radiation monitoring in the event of nuclear incidents. The Center also periodically publishes results related to radiation detection, monitoring, and assessment.
To lawfully conduct environmental radiation monitoring and verify public health and environmental safety through the monitoring results, RMC construct the 「Environmental Radiation Monitoring Plan 2025」which include 3 sub-projects :「Environmental Radiation Monitoring Plan around Nuclear Facilities」,「Radioactive Fallout and Environmental Radiation Detection Plan」 and 「Radioactivity Detection Plan for Food and Drinking Water」.
The implementation period for this Plan is from January 1, 2025, to December 31, 2025. The results will be periodically compiled into two reports: the Quarterly Reports of Radiation Monitoring around Nuclear Facilities, and the Report of Radiation Monitoring on Radioactivity in Fallout, Foodstuffs and Cumulative Samples. These reports will be publicly released to ensure transparency in environmental radiation detection and monitoring information.
