Conforming to the「 Ionizing Radiation Protection Act 」article 19, promulgated on January 30, 2002, The Competent Authority (Nuclear Safety Commission, NSC in abbreviation) shall conduct environmental radiation monitoring at properly designated locations, where radiation monitoring facilities are set up and samples are taken, and makes results available to the public.
According to Organization Regulations of the Radiation Monitoring Center, Nuclear Safety Commission article 2, the Radiation Monitoring Center (RMC in abbreviation) is responsible for the survey of natural background radiation and radioactive fallout, monitoring radiation and radioactivity in surrounding area at nuclear facilities, radioactive waste management, storage, and final disposal sites, and makes results available to the public.
Besides, following the「Regulations for Management of Radiation Workplaces and Environmental Radiation Monitoring Outside Them」and 「Direction for Radiation Monitoring」, promulgated on June 27, 2016, November 11, 2009 respectively, RMC construct the 「Environmental Radiation Monitoring Plan in Taiwan 2024」which include 3 sub-projects :「Environmental radiation surveillance for nuclear facilities of Taiwan」,「Radiation surveillance of radioactive fallout and environmental radiation level of Taiwan」 and 「Radioactivity analysis in foodstuff and drinking water in Taiwan」.
In addition, to comply with the existing situation in Taiwan, the subproject, Environmental radiation surveillance for nuclear facilities of Taiwan, divides into 3 more elaborate sub-plans of the radiation inspection of nuclear power plant, research nuclear facility and the Lan-Yu Storage Site.
