About RMC
Last Update: Oct 31, 2023
The Radiation Monitoring Center (RMC) is responsible for the environmental radiation detection and investigation. To protect people against dangers caused by ionizing radiation, the RMC has settled up monitoring systems around the nuclear facilities and in various regions, strengthen the analysis and measurement of different kinds of environmental samples.
For enhancing radiation monitoring relevant technical capabilities and promoting laboratory quality certification, the RMC is engaged in international data comparing with IAEA test samples and technical information exchanges actively to ensure the data are consistently accurate and precise.

History
- "Taiwan Radiation Monitoring Station" was established in 1974 as a subsidiary government agency under Atomic Energy Council to carry out domestic environmental radiation detection services to safeguard the radiation safety and was in charge of detecting radioactive fallout since September in the same year.
- The laboratory building was completed in 1976,the building and laboratory equipment were renewal in May 2020.
- The "Organic Act of Taiwan Radiation Monitoring Station" was promulgated by the president in 1980, and started to process environmental background radiation survey, environmental radiation monitoring around Nuclear Power Plants, Lan-Yu radioactive waste storage site and nuclear research reactors.
- The "Organic Act of the Radiation Monitoring Center, Atomic Energy Council, " was promulgated by the president in 1996. The RMC become "the central laboratory for radioactive analysis of environmental samples" to enhance radiation monitoring capabilities and promoting laboratory quality certification, and is engaged in international data comparing with IAEA test samples and technical information exchanges actively to ensure the data are consistently accurate and precise.
- On September 27, 2023, in conjunction with the organizational adjustment work of the Executive Yuan, the Radiation Monitoring Center, Atomic Energy Council, Executive Yuan was restructured into the Radiation Monitoring Center, Nuclear Safety Commission.
