Nuclear Reactor Safety
Last Update: Jun 03, 2025
The Nuclear Safety Commission (NSC) is responsible for the safety regulation of nuclear reactor facilities in Taiwan. They are Chinshan, Kuosheng, Maanshan NPPs and one other research reactor (the Tsing-Hua Open-pool Reactor, THOR). The goal of nuclear safety regulation is to ensure public health and safety in accordance with the Nuclear Reactor Facilities Regulation Act and other pertinent ordinances.
The NSC regulates all the important aspects of nuclear reactor facility safety by implementing a variety of regulatory measures. These measures include conducting safety reviews, carrying out on-site inspections of various types (such as resident inspections, project team-inspections, and unannounced inspection), holding regulatory meetings, consulting advisory committees, and communicating with nuclear regulatory authorities of other countries. These regulatory measures apply to operating NPPs as well as those in the process of being decommissioned in order to ensure nuclear reactor facility safety.
