The World Trade Organization (WTO) is the most important international trade organization, and is currently comprised of 148 members. After twelve years of negotiation, Taiwan finally became a WTO member on January 1, 2002. As the regulatory authority for nuclear safety, NSC participates in the Subcommittee on Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) under the International Economic and Trade Strategic Deployment Committee, and fulfills its obligation of notifying the body of technical regulations concerning nuclear energy in accordance with the provisions of the WTO/TBT Agreement. In addition, NSC reviews and provides comments on technical regulations or conformity assessment procedures adopted by other countries.
