The core purpose of radiation protection administration is through regulatory control and inspection to protect people and the environment from ionizing radiation. The objects in the regulatory control encompass radioactive materials and equipment capable of producing ionizing radiation which are used or to be used by nuclear facilities, medical units, academic institutions, industrial entities and/or agricultural units, etc. Those for protection are radiation practitioners, people receiving radiological diagnosis or radiation therapy, the general public and the environment.

In order to ensure the safety of radiation applications, the Department of Radiation Protection introduce a graded-approach program for licensing and permitting, to conduct regulatory control of radioactive materials, equipment capable of producing ionizing and the associated radiation practices such as production, sale, import, export, installation, use, tentatively disuse, transfer and permanently disuse, etc. as well as of radiation practitioners and radiation protection personnel. The Department of Radiation Protection also assist in strengthening users’ self-management ability, reducing the dose of radiation workers as low as reasonably achievable, improving the medical exposure quality as well as facilitating services of online application system, for enhancing administrative service quality and domestic radiation safety.
