The Nuclear Safety Commission (NSC) is the governing agency in charge of the nuclear licensing and related regulatory functions in Taiwan. To proactively monitor operational safety parameters and radiation level at various domestic nuclear facilities at any time, the NSC has established Nuclear Safety Duty Center (NSDC) to operate 24hrs a day, 7days a week to remote oversee the status of nuclear power plants and environmental radiation reading.

NSDC also plays an important role as a focal contact point not only to communicate with the plant licensee or the general public about nuclear safety, radiation protection, nuclear waste management and other nuclear/radiological events but also to maintain close contact with domestic and international nuclear organizations by performing the communication test or event report. While in the occurrence of nuclear accidents or any significant radiation release events, NSDC would be the first contact point to get the notification, then the center's role will be converted into the communication and emergency response center of the NSC to activate and carry out the emergency response mechanism.
