2005 Nuclear Emergency Exercise

The annual nuclear emergency exercise has been held as "Nuclear Safety Month" from July 18 to August 12 at Chinshan Nuclear Power Plant in northern Taiwan.
According to the Nuclear Emergency Response Act which becomes effective as of July 1, 2005, this exercise aimed to examine the preparedness and emergency response of relevant organizations.

Important items of the four-week exercise were planned as follows: 
1.Public education and communication
The first week focused on public education and communication through radio and television programs. Representatives of residents in the emergency planning zone (EPZ) were arranged to visit emergency response facilities.
2.Nuclear emergency exercise of Chinshan Nuclear Power Plant
The task of the second-week exercise was to inspect the emergency response of Chinshan Nuclear Power Plant, Physical protection measures of the plant and fire fighting were also highlights.
3.Emergency preparedness inspection and mobilization test
The third week was planned for inspecting preparedness of public protection material and equipment of relevant organizations for emergency. Notification and mobilization of emergency response organizations, siren broadcast and sheltering were tested as well.
4.Off-site nuclear emergency exercise
During the final week, exercises of decision making and commanding of response organizations, medical care, radiation survey and sampling, radiation dose evaluation and decontamination were conducted.
