The Nuclear Safety Commission (NSC) is Taiwan's regulatory authority over the atomic energy related affairs. In line with the governmental reform of the Executive Yuan, NSC was reorganized and became an independent agency under the Executive Yuan on September 27, 2023. NSC is committed to overseeing the safety of domestic nuclear power plants, nuclear facilities, and radiation-related workplaces, to planning radioactive waste regulation prudently, and to enhancing radiological emergency response capabilities and environmental radiation monitoring. Furthermore, NSC also actively promotes research and development in atomic energy science and technology, as well as the applications of atomic energy in medicine, agriculture, industry, and environmental protection, to improve public well-being and environmental sustainability.

NSC establishes a comprehensive safety supervision mechanism for nuclear energy, ionizing radiation, and radioactive materials. NSC also cultivates professional talent, strengthens emergency response capabilities, and ensures the peaceful use of nuclear energy. By bringing together experts from academia and the private sector, as well as pursuing information transparency, NSC rigorously safeguards public safety. Guided by the vision of “radiation and nuclear safety, public peace of mind, daily renewal, and professional innovation,” NSC remains dedicated to the sustainable development of nuclear safety and civil applications of atomic energy.
