Event Highlights:
The U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Radiological Security (ORS) and the Nuclear Safety Commission (NSC) co-hosted the “Technical Exchange Meeting on Transportation Security Technology & Practices” from May 28 to 29, 2026. This meeting focused on radioactive source transportation security control and monitoring technologies. The discussions covered security challenges for mobile radioactive sources, transportation security tracking technologies, and emergency response exercises. Through mutual experience-sharing and dialogue, the event aimed to enhance the safety management of mobile radioactive sources.

During the two-day technical sessions, U.S. experts provided in-depth analyses of security challenges for mobile radioactive sources and conducted live demonstrations of the "Mobile Source Transit Security (MSTS)" and "Transport Security Tracking and Reporting (TSTAR)" systems, sharing how advanced technology can strengthen protection during shipment and field operations. On the Taiwan side, participants shared insights on the current regulatory status of mobile radioactive sources in Taiwan, the development of real-time tracking technologies, and emergency response mechanisms for accidents.

The NSC expressed its appreciation to the U.S. Department of Energy representatives and experts from various national laboratories for traveling to Taiwan for this exchange. Through technical dialogues and system demonstrations, both sides achieved a profound sharing of experience in radioactive source transportation security and monitoring technology. The event also allowed Taiwanese participants to gain concrete insights into the latest international regulatory trends and operational practices. The NSC will continue to align with international standards to strengthen Taiwan’s radioactive source safety and security regulatory system, ensuring public health and social environmental safety.
