Activity:
To enhance Taiwan's capabilities in detecting and responding to nuclear and radiological terrorist attacks—such as Radiological Dispersal Devices (RDDs)- and to reduce radiation exposure risks, the Nuclear Safety Commission (NSC) invited the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration (DOE/NNSA) to conduct the “2025 WIRED (WMD Identification, Response, Evaluation and Detection) Training Course” in Taiwan.

The training focused on radiation protection, detection, response, and risk communication with the public for first responders to a radiological emergency. The event aimed to enhance understanding of response guidelines under various scenarios. In addition to classroom lectures, simulated exercises were incorporated to help participants apply the response principles they’ve learned, thereby enhancing the effectiveness of the training. The curriculum combines both theoretical knowledge and practical experience to ensure that first responders can protect themselves and the public in the event of radiological incident.

NSC will continue to promote international exchange and cooperation, strengthen counter-terrorism measures to prevent terrorist attacks from spreading into the country, and further develop a professional workforce for radiological emergency response, making every effort to ensure radiation safety in Taiwan.
