Table 9.5-1 D.1.(j):Floors, walls and ceilings enclosing separate fire areas should have minimum fire rating of three hours. Penetrations in these fire barriers, including conduits and piping, should be sealed or closed to provide a fire resistance rating at least equal to that of the fire barrier itself.
Door openings should be protected with equivalent rated doors, frames and hardware that have been tested and approved by a nationally recognized laboratory.
Such doors should be normally closed and locked or alarmed with alarm and annunciation in the control room. Penetrations for ventilation system should be protected by a standard “fire door damper ” where required. (Refer to NFPA 80, “Fire Doors and Windows.”).
